Who am I?

October 23, 2008 by Paul Gotham 7 Comments

I may not be the brother of Loretta Lynn, but I am a coal miner’s son. It’s kinda difficult to pick a number to represent me. Is it 600? As in the amount of money I signed for. Or is it 1959? As in the one year I was temporarily retired. Perhaps 235 represents me best. That number did account for more points than the 335 that could also symbolize my accomplishments. Put those numbers together with another and you get 2002 – that might help you to remember me. I led the NFL in each of the following categories for at least one year – passes completed, passing yards, passing tds, passer rating, passing yards per game, points scored, extra points made, field goal percentage, and passes completed per game. These numbers helped me earn four Pro Bowls, a 1st Team All-Pro, a Bert Bell, and an AFL Player of the Year.

Sorry, Muels. I was going to make the Christmas morning comment as well, but my comment never appeared, so I wasn’t sure that I was first. So, no M&Ms for me today?
