Who am I?

October 16, 2008 by Paul Gotham 2 Comments

Mine is a story of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was born in Newark, New Jersey and eventually attended the University of Maryland. Running for the Terrapins I won three NCAA titles. At one time or another I held World Records for the 50 meter, 55 meter, and 110 meter hurdles. Unfortunately, the United States boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics, and I never won an Olympic gold. At a time when endorsements were not as lucrative, I decided to try my luck with football. I earned a spot for the 1982 season…the year of a work stoppage. I would play three seasons in the NFL making four touchdown receptions and grabbing a Super Bowl ring, but I never quite lived up to my billing. My participation in professional sports excluded me from the 1984 Olympics. My one claim to fame is that I am the only four-time winner of the Superstars – a made for TV competition broadcast by ABC Sports.
