Webster ended their ’08 season with a pair of 6-5 games. First an improbable victory over second-place Brockport. The Yanks scored two in the ninth for their first come-from-behind victory of the season. Entering the game the Pinstripes were 0-20 in games where they trailed after the 6th inning. The win also represented the Yanks third one-run win to go with 9 one-run losses.
Geoff Dornes (R.I.T.) had the game -winning RBI and picked up his first save of the season.
Luke Wallace rapped his third dinger of the season one night later as Webster lost to division-leading Hornell, 6-5.
Earlier in the week Webster split a pair with Niagara. Matt Zahel (Toledo) tossed seven innings of two-hit ball but came away with a no-decision in the opener as the Yanks lost 1-0 in 10.
Dom Sapp went the distance in the night cap for the win. Steve Muoio (Georgia College) and Adam Perlo (Hofstra) each had a pair of hits and two RBI. Wallace also drove in two with a HR. Mark Wiggins (UMass-Lowell) rapped three hits and scored one as the good guys came out on top, 9-2.
Sam Dawes (Miami of Ohio) worked eight shutout innings for the week.
Webster alums: Pat Urckfitz (Greenville Astros) finally gave up an earned run in the Rookie-Appalachian League. In eight appearances Urck has an ERA of 2.16 with 9 strike outs and six walks. In eight and a third he has surrendered six hits (1 HR) and two earned runs.
Bryan Gardner (Gulf Coast Reds) has pitched in 10 games for the GC Reds. Bryan has fanned 14 and walked 8 in 13 innings of work. He is tied for the second-most appearances on the Reds’ pitching staff.
