One year ago Webster limped to a 1-3 start. This year the Webster nine has made their way out of the gate pretty well.
Saturday the Yankees pounded out nineteen hits en route to setting an NYCBL record for runs scored in a single as they topped Bolivar 24-7 to complete a doubleheader sweep.
Luke Wallace was the game one hero. The sophomore from UMass-Lowell broke a 4-4 tie in the 8th with a bomb over the left center wall. Wallace went 2 for 4 with four RBI.
Sam Dawes (Miami, Ohio) tossed four shutout innings to pick up the win in relief.
The second game of the DH was a barrage. Webster scored 4 in the third, 5 in the 4th and seven in the sixth as the A’s ran out of arms. Cory Brownsten (Pittsburgh), Ryan Chenoweth (Ball St.), TJ Baumet (Ball State), and Kyle Weldon (Miami, Ohio) all had three hits apiece.
After a doubleheader hangover produced a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Geneva Red Wings, the Webster nine rebounded with a come from behind triumph on Monday. Aaron Etchison (Ball St.) roped a bases-clearing double to lead the Yankees.
Webster gets a couple of days off before traveling to Scio on Thursday for a game against Allegany County.
