The Xavier women’s team posted a 66-54 win over Northern Illinois Friday evening in its first game of the Holiday Inn Cavalier Classic hosted by University of Virginia. With the win, Xavier improves to an even 6-6 on the season while Northern Illinois falls to 4-7 overall.
In its final game before Christmas, the Xavier women’s basketball team dropped a 66-55 decision at Indiana Friday afternoon. The Musketeers were led by senior Gray with 16 points in 27 minutes of action. With the loss, XU moves to 5-6 while IU improves to 8-4 on the season.
Wanninger’s 14 points came off of a 4-of-12 performance from the field including three 3-pointers and a 3-of-4 mark from the free-throw line. Crouch earned her second straight double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Jessica Pachko posted 12 points seven boards in the win. Xavier won the rebounding battle 53-34 and forced UNCW into eight turnovers on the night.
Despite a double-double from Lakeisha Crouch and a career-high 17 boards from Jenna Crittendon the Xavier women’s basketball team fell to Wright State 66-65 Saturday afternoon in front of 992 at Cintas Center. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 4-5 on the season while Wright State improved to 5-4.
The Xavier women’s basketball team fell in an overtime thriller 77-73 at Cintas Center Friday night to the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Senior Amber Gray had her first double-double of the season with a career-high 25 points and a season-high 10 rebounds while shooting a season-high 75 percent from the field.
The Xavier Musketeers suffered an 82-59 setback to the #4/4 Duke Blue Devils Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. Junior Ashley Wanninger tied a career-high with 15 points as well as three rebounds and two steals.
Led by junior Shatyra Hawkes with a career-high 24 points, the Xavier women’s basketball team soared past the visiting Morehead State Eagles, 73-58, Wednesday night at Cintas Center. Hawkes was the game’s leading scorer and grabbed a season-high six rebounds.
Xavier demonstrated its stingiest defense of the season by holding High Point (1-3) to a season-low 48 points, 26 percent from the field (17-of-65), and 11 percent from long-range (1-of-9). The Musketeers sealed the victory with a 19-4 run over the final 7:02 of the game to put them ahead for good.
Xavier women’s basketball head coach Amy Waugh has announced the signing of six high school seniors to National Letters of Intent to play college ball as Musketeers as part of XU’s 2013 recruiting class.
The Musketeers battled all game keeping in striking distance for a majority of the second half. However the UM pulled away with a 7-0 run midway through the second half to give them a 56-41 lead. During the span the Wolverines had a 15 point edge, good enough for their largest lead of the game.
