Liz Brown led Richmond with a team-high 14 points (one shy of her career-high), while Wann added 11 points and tied a career-best with 15 rebounds. Kristina King added 10 points, while Ryann Dannelly, Bilney and Amber Nichols all had nine points.
Richmond erased an 18-point deficit to rally past Navy, 65-59, Friday night at the Robins Center. It was Richmond’s largest rally since coming back from a 19-point deficit at Duquesne, Jan. 19, 2011. Richmond improved to 9-6, as it won its second-straight. Navy fell to 7-7.
Richmond scored 100 points for the first time since beating Howard 101-57 on Dec. 15, 2004. Richmond had five players in double-figures, led by Kristina King’s 20 points. Becca Wann added 19 and a career-best nine assists, Amber Nichols with a career-high 14, Rachael Bilney with 13 and Ryann Dannelly with 10 points and a personal-best five blocks.
Kristina King scored a career-high 29 points, going 10-of-19 from the field, 8-of-10 from the line. King’s drives to the basket could not be contained as she poured in her game-high total.
The Spiders sustained a late rally by North Carolina A&T to move to 4-4 on the season, while the Aggies fell to 3-3. After Richmond went up by its largest margin of the game, 62-39 with 10:15 left, North Carolina A&T chipped away at the lead with a 17-7 run over the ensuing six minutes to cut the deficit to within 69-59 with 2:28 left.
The Gibbsboro, N.J. native was second on the team with 10.3 points per game, and pulled down a team-high 11.0 rebounds per game. Okoro’s rebound total ranked second in the A-10 and 25th in the country. Okoro had registered a double-double in three games this season and grabbeddouble-figure rebounds in all but two games.
The Richmond Spiders women’s basketball team entered the 2012-13 season with high expectations, picked to finish second the Atlantic 10 pre-season polls. However a pair of tough, hard fought loses early on, has not gotten the Spider’s season off to the start they expected.
