Ethan Davenport struck out 11 in his five innings of work for Genesee Valley-Belfast as the Jaguars won their first game of the season. Trent Hutchison went 4-for-4 to lead the Jags’ bats. Nolan Hunter (2-for-2) and Ben Cater (2-for-4) notched multi-hit efforts for GV-B. Kaden Huffer tacked on a hit of his own for the Jaguars.

SATURDAY

MCQUAID JESUIT (1-0) 6

Thomas Bailey led off the bottom of the first for McQuaid with a triple, scoring on a groundout from Daniel Luce, putting the Knights into a lead that they never relinquished. Dominic Corona tripled down the right field line to score the Knights second run before Ryan Dejoy drove him in on a sacrifice fly, putting McQuaid up three after the first frame. An RBI double by TD Jordan in the bottom of the second scored the Knights’ fourth run of the game. Brayden Craig earned the win for the Knights, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks, fanning five in his four innings of work. Isaac Stella twirled two scoreless innings in relief of Craig, allowing just two hits and striking out five.

SUNDAY

CANANDAIGUA (1-0) 4
ST. FRANCIS (IL) 2

Jack Clark went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Canandaigua. With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the first, Clark drove in two with a single, putting the Wolves up 2-0. An RBI groundout from Sam Clark in the second inning and an RBI single from Tyler Christopher in the third gave the Wolves two more runs, putting them up 4-0. Cormick Schaeffer earned the win for Canandaigua, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk in his five innings of work, fanning five. Christopher, who ended the day at the plate 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks, closed out the game for the Wolves allowing an unearned run in his two innings of work, striking out two. Cole Harris notched a multi-hit effort for Canandaigua, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

JUSTICE (VA) 1
PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND (1-0) 8

Sutherland pitchers struck out 13 batters, led by winning pitcher Chase Dermody, who fanned nine, allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks. Noah Gressell and Pete Munzinger combined for three scoreless innings in relief of Dermody, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Gressell went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI at the plate for the Vikings. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, Sutherland tied the score thanks to an RBI single from Tyler Allen. With the score still tied at one in the bottom of the fourth, Gressell put the Vikings in front with an RBI single. An error and a sac fly from Aidan Kress put the Vikings up 4-1. Sutherland added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run single from Maddox Johnson and an RBI triple from Ryan Munzinger.

KETCHIKAN (AK) 4
MCQUAID JESUIT (2-0) 12

Ryan Dejoy went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead McQuaid. After three straight extra-base hits from Thomas Bailey, Daniel Luce and Connor Forkey to lead off the bottom of the first put the Knights up 2-0, Dejoy drove in two more runs with a single to put McQuaid up 4-0. Ketchikan rallied to tie the game at four in the top of the fifth, but five straight batters reached for the Knights to start the bottom half of the inning, putting them up 6-4. After an RBI groundout from Dom Anzalone, Chris Leuzzi drove in two more runs for McQuaid on a single, giving the Knights a five-run lead. Forkey hit a two-run inside the park home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the Knights up seven. Zach Craib added the Knights 12th run on an RBI single. Luce finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI for McQuaid. Dominic Corona went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and a walk. Forkey also added a multi-hit effort for the Knights, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk. Ryker Christensen earned the win for the Knights, throwing 2 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings, striking out four. Jake Meszler got the start for the Knights, striking out seven and allowing one earned run in his 4 2/3 innings of work.

KNOX (KY) 1
HILTON (1-0) 11

Jackson Oliveri, Kallin Whelehan and Kamden Whelehan drove in three runs apiece to pace a Hilton offense which finished with 12 hits on the day. Oliveri’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning brought home Calvin Starwald, who had reached on a double, with what proved to be the go-ahead run. Oliveri scored later in the inning on Kamden Whelehan’s two-out single. The trio each contributed in the seventh when the Cadets sent 12 to the plate and scored six to put the game out of reach. Zach Mattice struck out five and allowed one run on three hits and three walks over 4.1 innings to pick up the win. Connor Newton hurled 2.2 scoreless inning in relief to register a save. Oliveri started the scoring with a solo home run in the second. Jack Lander went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Brody Keller was 2-4 and crossed home twice. Jared Wade singled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored twice. Michael Keller and Cameron McCarville both singled and scored.
