Pittsford (19-4-2) fell 5-3 in the NYSPHSAA Division I semifinals to Section I’s Suffern Saturday afternoon.
Suffern jumped on Pittsford early 33 seconds into the contest when Sean Tyrrell scored his first of five goals for the Mounties when the puck trickled into the back of the net. Tyrrell would make it 2-0 after a set play on the face-off with 21 seconds remaining in the period. Pittsford did lead in shots in the period outshooting Suffern 14-10.
Tyrrell extended the Mounties’ lead with a short-handed marker around the middle part of the second period. Pittsford pushed back in the last six minutes of the middle frame. Evan Weiner cut into the Suffern lead when he banged home a rebound. Ryan Munzinger collected an assist on the first goal. Casey Reagan brought the Panthers within one when David Pollard sent a pass to the slot that Reagan ripped home with 34 seconds remaining.
Tyrrell would put Suffern back up by two with a power play goal with just under 10 minutes left in the third period. Pollard would bring Pittsford back within one with his own man advantage goal after Weiner sent a pass across that the senior shot top shelf. Tyrrell would add his fifth goal with 1:29 remaining in the contest to seal the victory and third straight state title game appearance for Suffern.
Pittsford reached its second straight NYSPHSAA Division I semifinals after receiving an at-large bid into the state tournament after falling short in the Section V Class A title game. The Panthers will say goodbye to 11 seniors who played major roles in helping them reach those back-to-back state semifinal contests.
