
Two teams making third state tournament appearances since 2016 will take the court, Wednesday night at Gates Chili High School. Our Lady of Mercy and Lake Shore (VI) are set to face off in Class A sub-regional action. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Our Lady of Mercy defeated YWCP/EMHCS (69-46), East (56-44) and Honeoye Falls-Lima (54-35) to reach Wednesday’s matchup. Lake Shore cruised past Pioneer (51-29), Lewiston Porter (52-46), Starpoint (54-46) and Depew (35-24) to reach the sub-regional.

Trends: Our Lady of Mercy enters with a four-game win streak which included four straight double-digit victories. Lake Shore takes a nine-game win streak into action including double digit victories in six of those wins.

History 101: Mercy is making its third state tournament appearance since 2016. The Monarchs will look to make it three wins in a row. The same two teams met in 2016 when Mercy came away with a 61-30 victory. Lake Shore lost to eventual state champion Pittsford Mendon in 2019. Mercy is 4-6 all-time in regional action with other wins in 1985 and 1989.
What’s at stake: A spot in the Class A state quarterfinals against the winner of Norwich and Honeoye Falls-Lima.
