One team enters on a 18-game winning streak. The other is looking for its second straight Class AA2 title. It’s a battle of Monroe County Division III foes when No. 1 seed Pittsford Mendon and No. 3 seed Greece Athena meet Saturday at Blue cross Arena. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Pittsford Mendon got past No. 9 Wilson 77-49 in the quarterfinals before sneaking past No. 4 Gates Chili 56-54 to clinch a spot in the title game. Greece Athena opened up its postseason run with an 89-72 win over No. 6 seed Vertus. In the semifinals, the Trojans rallied to defeat second-seeded Pittsford Sutherland 71-65.

Scoring offense: Pittsford Mendon (69.1 PPG), Greece Athena (68.8 PPG)

Scoring defense: Pittsford Mendon (55.5 PPG), Greece Athena (54.5 PPG)

Trends: Pittsford Mendon enters this weekend on an 18-game win streak. Six of their past eight games have been won by 20 points or more. Greece Athena has won eight straight games, half of which have been by double digits.

Coaches: Bob Nally (Pittsford Mendon), Mike Setzer (Greece Athena)

History 101: The two squads met twice in the regular season, with the Vikings winning both matchups. Pittsford Mendon is looking for sixth sectional championship and third since the 2019 season. Greece Athena is the defending Class AA2 champion, and a win would give the Trojans their 10th sectional title in program history.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Far West Regional Qualifier against the winner in Class AA1, either Penfield or Victor.
