March 5, 2026 by Victor Menendez Leave a Comment

One squad aims to win its first sectional title since 2003. The other looks to capture its second title in the last three years. Le Roy and Mynderse clash on Friday to determine the Section V Class B1 winner. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 LE ROY OATKAN KNIGHTS
(15-7 / Livingston County Division II)
vs.
No. 7 MYNDERSE BLUE DEVILS
(10-13 / Finger Lakes East)
Friday, Blue Cross Arena, 5:00 p.m.

How they arrived here: Top-seeded Le Roy beat Livonia (58-47) and Waterloo (53-45) to reach the Class B1 title game. Mynderse dropped Dansville (53-19), No. 2 Hornell (67-58) and Wellsville (61-57) to secure a spot in the championship game.

Scoring offense: Le Roy (62.3), Mynderse (55.9)

Scoring defense: Le Roy (54.6), Mynderse (56.3)

Trends: Le Roy has won eight of its last 10 games. Mynderse came out victorious in each of its last three games.

Players to watch for Le Roy: Grady Gilligan Sr. (15.7 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 2.3 APG, 2.6 SPG); Matthew Hockey Sr. (13.1 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 5.2 APG, 2.6 SPG); Aidan Weaver Sr. (12.3 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.6 SPG); Brayden Chase Sr. (10.4 PPG, 2.1 APG, 2.4 SPG); Cole Tonzi Sr. (4.2 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 3.4 APG, 2.2 SPG); Jagger Smith Sr. (3.4 PPG, 4.0 RPG).

Coaches: Mike Battaglia (Le Roy), Pat Prayne (Mynderse)

History 101: Le Roy is looking for its first sectional title since 2003. That title was Le Roy’s first and, to this day, only title. Le Roy had yet to be back to a sectional final until this year. Anthony Luffman led Mynderse to the Class B1 title in 2024. After falling to Waterloo 63-52 in the B1 semifinals last year, the Blue Devils are looking to reclaim their throne.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Class B Far West Regional Qualifier against either Bishop Kearney/Chesterton or Canisteo-Greenwood.
