
Irondequoit trailed by as many as nine points in the first half and was down seven with 1:42 left but rallied for a 59–56 victory over visiting Spencerport to clinch the Monroe County Division II on Senior Night.
The Eagles (15-5, 8-2) made 17-of-18 free throws, including 6-of-7 in the final minutes. Junior point guard Roman Maldonado was fouled with 1:05 to go and hit all three free throws to tie the game at 56 before Anthony Major’s two free throws at :32 put the Eagles ahead. Spencerport missed a shot on its final possession with a chance to tie.
Maldonado scored seven of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter. Major added 12 points and eight rebounds. Fellow senior Josh Morse scored all 10 of his points in the first quarter.
Chris Harris led Spencerport (5-15) with 20 points. J’Mari Dyson added 13 before fouling out late, and Eli Schuyler had 11.
Irondequoit is expected to be the No. 2 seed in upcoming Section Class AA1 tournament.
