Monroe’s Hampton headlines small school All-NYS selections

The NYSSWA announced its Small School Football All-State selections on Wednesday as well as the state Players of the Year. You can view the official release here.

Monroe wide receiver Messiah Hampton took home the New York State Class B Player of the Year award. Hampton finished with 62 catches for a Section V record 1,224 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. The senior was a part of a Monroe team that won its first ever state title after an undefeated season. Hampton, a University of Oregon commit, was also named the 2025-26 New York Gatorade Player of the Year.

His quarterback, Terrell “Pooty” Cunningham Jr., was selected to the Class B Offensive First team. The junior was also named the Section V Class B Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for a Section V record 3,028 passing yards. Cunningham completed 74.8 percent of his passes and threw for 39 touchdowns while running for four.

Two other Monroe players received First team honors. Jermaine Montgomery was selected to the Defensive First team for Class B as a linebacker. Montgomery, in addition to being named the Class B Defensive Player of the Year, led the Red Jackets in tackles with 122. He finished with four tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Defensive end Anthony Omebe was named to the First team after finishing the season with 55 tackles, 11 sacks, and three fumble recoveries.

Monroe offensive lineman Alijah Jones was named to the second team, in addition to Honeoye Falls-Lima defensive lineman August Youngstrom and Honeoye Falls-Lima place kicker Ezra Gathercole. Batavia defensive lineman Karvel Martino was named to the Fourth team. His teammate, linebacker Maggio Buchholz, was selected to the Fifth team. Monroe defensive back James Brumfield was also a Fifth team selection. Red Jacket linebacker Christien Franklin was a Sixth team selection.

Luis Falu (Monroe) and Ray Garcia (Monroe) were offensive honorable mentions. On the defensive side of the ball, Jordan Wickham (Monroe), Jovan Bennett (Monroe), D’Markos Trammell (Monroe), and Cole Davi (Batavia) were honorable mentions.

In Class C, senior offensive lineman Jacob Johnson was a First team selection. Johnson was a part of an Alexander/Pembroke squad that ran for over 260 yards per game and went 11-1 while reaching the Far West Regional. Fellow senior and defensive lineman Carter Pricer was a First team selection as well. Pricer was a leader on a Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw defense that held opponents to 11.9 points per game and helped the Dawgs reach the Section V Class C title game.

Alexander/Pembroke had two players named to the Second team, being offensive lineman Wyatt Summers and linebacker Sean Pietrzykowski. Section V Class C Defensive Player of the Year Ray Allen was a Second team selection as a linebacker from East Rochester/Gananda. His brother, Justice Allen, was a Third team selection as a wide receiver.

Section V Class C Offensive Player of the Year Ryder Reichart (Alexander/Pembroke), and Brady Flaitz (Hornell/Arkport-Canaseraga) were offensive honorable mentions, while Cam Riggi (Le Roy/Caledonia-Mumford) and Caden Sumerski (Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry) were defensive honorable mentions.

Avon’s Kal Dolgos was selected to the Class D Offensive First team after the senior caught 51 passes for 832 yards while running for 667 yards. The Section V Class D Offensive Player of the Year finished his season with 28 total touchdowns, three of which came in Avon’s win in the Section V Class D title game.

Linebacker Liam Campbell from York/Pavilion was a First team selection. The Class D Defensive Player of the Year in Section V, Campbell finished his senior season with 126 tackles, three sacks, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. His teammate, Parker Bonefede, was also selected to the First team. The defensive back made 20 tackles while intercepting five passes and breaking up two more.

Three Avon players were named to the Second team, being linebacker Bobby Bridges, defensive back Evan Blye, and placekicker Gabriel Mayen.  Oakfield-Alabama/Elmba offensive lineman Ty Reilly and Notre Dame Batavia/Byron-Bergen defensive back Chase Antinore additionally received the honor.

TJ Cephus (Notre Dame Batavia/Byron-Bergen) and Trent Englert (York/Pavilion) were offensive honorable mentions. Spencer Berry (Canisteo-Greenwood) was an honorable mention on defense.
