Monday Girls’ Basketball Wrap: Wayne’s DeMinck, Keshequa’s Isaman notch double-doubles; Scharvogel’s hot start powers Byron-Bergen

Mia DeMinck dropped a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead Wayne in its season opener. Sarah Cass followed with 11 points. Lauren Twist chipped in 10 points for the Eagles.

Claire Spears led three in double figures to pace Bishop Kearney. Denari Langston and Sureya Fernandez accounted for 13 and 12 points respectively.

MYNDERSE (2-1) 57

Peyton Verkey and Danielle McDermott combined for 30 points, pacing the Mynderse offense at home. Verkey finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and six helpers. Verkey also drilled four shots from deep. McDermott tallied 12 points, six boards, three assists and two takeaways. Iris Heitmann chipped in nine points and four boards. Gabby Higby and Ryleigh Ryrko scored five and four points, respectively. For Geneva, Heaven Strongs led with 10 points. Carmela Mazzocchi followed with eight points.

Charity Scott scored 18 points and added five steals, as Letchworth won its second straight game. Annika Milillo chipped in 13 points, seven steals and five boards. Sasha Bellamy tacked on 11 points and a pair of blocks. Kendal Jines and McKenna Krist both added seven points. Jines had five steals, while Krist chipped in seven boards. Maya Bellamy scored six points to go with six steals. Lily DeRock finished with five points, while Gillian Kemp had four. Belle Akin added six rebounds. For Wayland-Cohocton, Emily Moran led with seven points and Jenna Elwell followed with six.

BYRON-BERGEN (2-0) 53

Simone Scharvogel scored 12 of her 15 points before the break and made two three-pointers to lead Byron-Bergen on the road. Rylee Shallenberger also added 15 points and netted a pair from beyond the arc. Lauren Gartz tacked on nine points. For Attica, Meghan Gersitz led with 10 points. Hailey Mills drilled two shots from deep and had eight points.

Sophomore Whitney Thrush scored a game-high 16 points, to go along with three rebounds and two blocks for Wheatland-Chili. Junior Vanessa Guerrero finished with 10 points, seven steals, six rebounds and three assists for the visiting Wildcats. Sophomore Brynn Thomas scored eight points for Holley.

Braelyn Isaman compiled a double-double, scoring 21 points and dishing out 10 assists in Keshequa’s home-opening win. Ryley Benner followed with 15 points and four assists. Belle Rigney chipped in 10 points and three helpers. Alicia Wood contributed 12 points and brought down five rebounds. Onnalee Long tacked on seven points. Bree Benner and Kaydra Morrill both had four points. For Warsaw, Zoe Kaminski and Halli Hoffmeister both led with eight points.

CANISTEO-GREENWOOD (3-0) 54
CORNING-PAINTED POST (IV) 37

Kara Mahaney dropped 26 points, pacing the Canisteo-Greenwood on the road. Mahaney made eight shots from the floor, including six from beyond the arc. Anna Mitchell followed with eight points on three made baskets and a free throw. Grace Mahaney and Bailey Mullen both added seven points. Paris May and Mackenna Mullen both netted a three-pointer. Payton Bentley brought down eight boards. Mullen added five helpers.

JASPER-TROUPSBURG (2-1) 50
CAMPBELL-SAVONA (0-3) 30

Laura Hall scored 22 points, powering the Jasper-Troupsburg offense away from home. Leah Lawson followed with nine points, while Annabelle VanNorman chipped in eight. Avary Cornell scored seven points for the Wildcats. Keira Marsh had four points.
