Wednesday Girls’ Basketball Wrap: Jackson leads East with double-double; Mazzocchi finishes with 16 for Geneva

Semaj Jackson topped East scoring eight of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Eagles jumped out to a 19-5 lead. Jackson added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Darianna Weathers ended with 17 points in the win, connecting on two threes. Journe Caliz finished with 15 points and five assists. Madison Simmons pitched in 10 points. Aniyah Rapley had two points and Tiyanna Martino added a free throw in the win. Kaysia Jones led Edison with a game-high 30 points. Jones hit 10 times from the field with three three-pointers and hit seven times from the line. Laila Bummell scored 20 points. Charlena Robinson added two points.

Carmella Mazzocchi led Geneva with a game-high 16 points. Meghan Forbes ended with 10 points in the win. Emily Nevlezer topped North Rose-Wolcott with six points.

Tyler Hamsher finished with 12 points including a free throw with 2.2 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game in overtime. Hamsher then gave the Mustangs a three-point edge with another conversion from the charity with 2 seconds left in overtime. The senior also had five assists and four steals in the win. Kassidy Cole connected on 11-of-14 attempts from the free-throw line as part of game-high 15-point effort. Cole also grabbed six rebounds to go with an assist and a steal. Samantha O’Connor posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan Bell finished with four rebounds, two blocks, a steal and one point. Colleen Metcalfe (5) and Jaylynn Bridge (3) also scored for Dansville. Caidyn Jones and Marley Atherton led Addison with 11 points apiece.
