Girls’ Soccer NYS Semifinal Preview: Livonia, Chenango Forks to face off in Class B

One squad aims to reach the NYS title game for the first time since 2008. The other vies for its first state title appearance since winning in 2018. Livonia and Chenango Forks match up in Class B for a spot in the state championship. Here’s the breakdown:

Saturday, Cortland HS, 9:30 a.m.

How they arrived here: Livonia took down Dansville (4-0) and Hornell (2-0) en route to clinching a spot in the Class B1 championship game. The Bulldogs then beat Haverling (4-0),Williamson (4-0) and Falconer/CV/MG (1-0) to reach the semifinal. Chenango Forks defeated Sidney (8-1) to open the postseason then Watkins Glen (4-1) and Canton (2-0) to reach the NYS semifinals.

Total goals scored: Livonia (71), Chenango Forks (60)

Total goals allowed: Livonia (10), Chenango Forks (23)

Trends: Livonia enters on a 12-game win streak, during which the Bulldogs have allowed five goals total. Chenango Forks has outscored its past three opponents by a combined total of 14-2.

Players to watch for Livonia: Sunny Quinn So. (14 goals, 4 assists); Reghan Maxwell First-year (16 goals, 6 assists); Blair Maxwell First-year (12 goals, 13 assists); Olivia Feehan Sr. (9 goals, 5 assists); Ella Bingham Jr. (5 goals, 2 assists).

Players to watch for Chenango Forks: Alyx Clutz Sr.; Molly Doerr; Anna Ginalski Sr.; Grace Hogan; Aubrey McMullen So. (5 goals in past two games); Maya Rullo 7th; Delaney Wood Sr.

Coaches: Jennifer Bugbee (Livonia), Matt Wood (Chenango Forks)

History 101: Livonia is coming off its Section V-leading 20th title and first since 2017. The Bulldogs are looking to reach the state title game for the first time since they finished as runner-up in 2008. Livonia reached the state title game one other time, winning Class B in 2006. Chenango Forks aims to reach the championship for the first time since the Blue Devils won in Class B in 2018. In two state title game appearances, Chenango Forks is 2-0.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class B Championship against either Marcellus (III) or Mount Academy (IX).
