Class AAA regional preview: Fairport, Lancaster to clash in Far West Regional

One squad is looking to return to the NYS semifinals for a third straight year. The other looks to avenge a pair of defeats. For the third time in as many years, Fairport and Lancaster meet in the NYS Class AAA Far West Regional. Here’s the breakdown:

LANCASTER LEGENDS
(10-7-0 / ECIC)
Friday, Spencerport HS, 5 p.m.

How they arrived here: Fairport defeated Rush-Henrietta 2-0 to capture the Section V title. Lancaster beat West Seneca (5-0) and Niagara Falls (7-0) to win the Section VI crown.

Total goals scored: Fairport (38), Lancaster (43)

Total goals allowed: Fairport (19), Lancaster (41)

Trends: Fairport and Lancaster both enter having won three of four games.

Last time they met in the postseason: Fairport defeated Lancaster, 4-0 in the 2024 regional and in 2023, 2-1.

Players to watch for Fairport: Charly Sisson So. (2 goals, 5 assists); Sofia Jorge Sr. (4 assists); Eliana Biehler So. (6 goals, 8 assists); Zainab Khalid Sr. M (1 G, 3 A); Addison Tally Sr. (107 saves, 19 goals allowed, 1.27 GAA).

Lancaster: Reese Booker FY (14 goals, 7 assists); Kylie Silvestri Jr. (11 goals, 6 assists); Quinn Longo So. (6 goals, 3 assists); Laila Sengbush So. (3 goals, 12 assists); Emma Schulmeister Sr. (143 saves, 37 goals allowed, 2.69 GAA).

Coaches: Tom Natalie (Fairport), Brianna Sorrentino (Lancaster)

History 101: Fairport is making its third straight regional appearance and fifth since 2003. The Red Raiders are 3-1 in those games including a 1-0 win over Clarence in 2008. Lancaster is making fourth trip to the state quarterfinals since 2021 and looking for a second win during that stretch.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS semifinal against either Commack (XI AL) or Ithaca (IV).
