Sectional Championship Preview: Spencerport and Churchville-Chili to meet in Class AA final

One squad is looking for its tenth straight title. Another aims for its first since 2004. Spencerport and Churchville-Chili will meet for the Section V Girls’ Soccer Class A championship game on Saturday. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed SPENCERPORT RANGERS 
(16-1-1 / Monroe County Division II)
vs.
No. 3 seed CHURCHVILLE-CHILI SAINTS 
(15-3 / Monroe County Division II)

How they arrived here: No. 1 seeded Spencerport defeated No. 16 Irondequoit (6-0), No. 9 Brighton (4-1) and No. 4 Webster Thomas (2-1) to advance to the Class AA title matchup. No. 3 seeded Churchville-Chili worked past No. 14 Gates-Chili (1-0), No. 11 Victor (1-0) and No. 7 Penfield (2-0) to reach the sectional final.

Total goals scored: Spencerport (62), Churchville-Chili (46)

Total goals allowed: Spencerport (13), Churchville-Chili (17)

Trends: Both Spencerport and Churchville-Chili enter the finals matchup on a six-game winning streak. The Rangers recorded three shutouts during that span while the Saints have registered six straight shutouts.

M/F (4 G, 10 A); Alli Moss Sr. M (1 G, 5 A); Carley Oakden Sr. M (4 G, 4 A); Abigail Solano Sr. D/M (1 G, 5 A); Sydney Wyant Fr. F (4 G, 5 A); Addison Lynch Jr. GK (126 saves, 10 goals against).

Players to watch for Churchville-Chili: Elise Faix Fr. F/M (14 G, 6 A), Jillyan Ewing Sr. F/M (8 G, 5 A), Alexis Olson Sr. F (7 G, 9 A) Ava Fedele Jr. F/M (6 G, 3 A), Avery Aloi Sr. D (5 G, 1 A), Tessa Wood Sr. GK (115 saves, 17 goals against).

Coaches: Jamie Schneider (Spencerport), Brooke Elnicky (Churchville-Chili)

History 101: Spencerport is looking to capture a 10th-straight sectional title and 12th in program history. The Rangers hold the consecutive championship (9) record and are currently tied for sixth with Kendall trailing only Livonia (19), Aquinas (14), Arkport (13), Red Creek (12) and Pittsford Mendon (12) for most championships won in Section V Girls’ Soccer history. Churchville-Chili is pushing to win a first sectional title since 2004. The Saints have three total sectional crowns.

What’s next: A spot in the Girls’ Soccer Class AA Far West Regional against the Section VI champion, either Clarence or Frontier.

Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at Webster Schroeder.
