Sectional Championship Preview: Haverling, Livonia to battle for Class B1 championship

One program is looking for its first title since 2017 and 20th in program history. The other aims for a fifth in the past six years. For the third time this season, Livonia and Haverling clash, this time for the Section V Girls’ Soccer Class B1 title. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 2 seed LIVONIA BULLDOGS (16-1-0 / Livingston)
vs.
No. 4 seed HAVERLING RAMS (11-6-0 / Livingston)
Friday, Dansville HS, 7:45 p.m.

How they arrived here: Livonia took down Dansville (4-0) and Hornell (2-0) en route to clinching a spot in championship game. Haverling toppled Waterloo (5-0) and top-seeded Penn Yan (3-1) to reach the final.

Total goals scored: Livonia (62), Haverling (40)

Total goals allowed: Livonia (10), Haverling (22)

Trends: Livonia enters on a nine-game win streak, during which the Bulldogs have allowed five goals total. Haverling is riding a five-game win streak, with clean sheets in four of the five matches.

Players to watch for Livonia: Sunny Quinn So. (13 goals, four assists); Reghan Maxwell First-year (12 goals, four assists); Blair Maxwell First-year (11 goals, eight assists); Olivia Feehan Sr. (nine goals, five assists); Ella Bingham Jr. (five goals, two assists).

Haverling: Riley Beaty So. (19 goals, five assists); Zoey Winfield So. (six goals, 13 assists); Aleah Binkowski First-year (nine goals, six assists); Sierra Haight Jr. (seven goals, five assists); Makayla Smith Jr. (146 saves, 1.18 GAA).

Coaches: Jennifer Bugbee (Livonia), Braedyn Northrup (Haverling)

History 101: For the third time this season, Livonia and Haverling clash with one another. The Bulldogs won the first two matches, 7-1 and 2-1, respectively. Livonia is looking for its Section V-leading 20th sectional title and first since, 2017. Haverling is looking to return to the top for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Rams won four-straight from 2020-2023 and have five sectional title in program history. In 2023, Haverling won the NYS championship.

What’s next: A spot in the Class B Far West Regional against either Allegany-Limestone or Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove.
