A year after Naples beat out Arkport-Canaseraga in a unified Class D sectional tournament, this year the class is split in two. While Naples has made the jump to Class C2, Arkport-Canaseraga remains in Class D1, where the Wolves finished fifth in a competitive field that saw six teams finish with winning records during the regular season.

Leading the class is Northstar Christian Academy, which stands atop the class standings with a 14-2 record and 88 total points. The Knights, who enter the postseason on a three-game winning streak, are seeking their first sectional title since 2010. Northstar Christian is also looking to make up for last season, when it was the top seed only to fall to Arkport-Canaseraga, 2-1, in the Class D semifinals. Fillmore finished second in the class, with a 15-1 record but 84 points. The Eagles enter sectionals after they ended their regular season with a win over Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale, a bounce-back victory after their lone loss of the season, against Genesee Valley-Belfast.

Like Northstar, Fillmore saw its 2024 season end in the semifinals, going down as a No. 6 seed against Naples, 2-1. Rounding out the top four in class D1 are Genesee Valley-Belfast (13-1-2) – the lone team to beat Fillmore this season- and Charles G. Finney (10-5-1). Keshequa (10-6) and Arkport (10-5) round out the teams above .500. The hottest of the squads is Genesee Valley-Belfast, which hasn’t lost since it fell to Fillmore on Sept. 24.

First-round action begins on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when Campbell-Savona hosts Alfred-Almond for the right to face Northstar while Honeoye hosts Marion in a first round game with the winner setting a date with Fillmore. The games start at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
