After scoring a combined 25 runs in its previous two games in the 2025 American Legion Northeast Regional tournament, Greece Post 468 (23-6) couldn’t muster any runs against Waterford Post 161 (Connecticut) as they were shut out 4-0 on Saturday.
Derrick Allen and Colden Forney picked up a single each, registering the only two hits for Greece Post on the day.
Martin Light picked up the win on the mound for Waterford Post, going the full seven innings, allowing just two hits and no walks, fanning eight.
Nolan Bonnell got the ball for Greece Post, also going the full seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks, striking out seven.
Matthew Shampine got Waterford Post on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run.
Colby Sheehan added a third run in the top of the sixth with a solo shot.
Donte Valentine wrapped up his 3-for-3 day with an RBI single in the top of the seventh to tack on Waterford Post’s fourth run.
With this tournament being double-elimination, Greece will still have a chance at the Northeast championship on Sunday as this was first loss of the tournament for Post 468. They’ll face the winner of a 10 a.m. game between Shrewsbury Post 397 (Massachusetts) and Waterford Post in a winner-takes-all championship game at 1 p.m. Fans can follow the action here.
