American Legion Tuesday Wrap: Hamburg Post’s Putney leads offensive charge to final; Bonnell hurls scoreless game to lift Greece Post

Ashton Putney went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI including a two-run single to ignite a four-run fifth inning and give Hamburg Post a 10-4 lead it did not relinquish to advance to the New York State tournament championship. Down 2-0 in the second, Matthew King singled, driving in a run and tied the game at two apiece after crossing home plate thanks to a Putney single. King finished 2-3 and scored two runs on the day while Cole Notaro also ended 2-3 with RBI-singles in the second and fifth and crossed home plate once. Jackson Bugg collected two hits and two runs while Ryan Forringer hit an RBI-single and scored a run. Anthony Vicario added a hit, two runs and stole three bases while Ethan Osetkowski drove in the last run of the game with a single. Chase Porter hurled a complete game with eight strikeouts and allowed six runs on nine hits with two walks to pick up the win on the mound. For Clinton County, Scott Lamountain went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the way while Donnoven Mitchell, Jordan Perry and Nate Baker all notched a hit, a run and an RBI apiece. Warren Miller recorded a hit and two runs while Landen Duprey singled, driving in a run. Gabe Moore tallied a hit. Hamburg Post takes on Greece Post in the championship with first game tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Nolan Bonnell hurled seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball with four strikeouts and three walks to earn the win on the mound for Greece Post’s fourth straight victory. Mason Davey finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-0 lead while Nathan Brinza also went 2-3 and put the finishing touches to the three-run sixth with an RBI-single to extend the lead to four and put the game away. Cam Barbulean added a hit and a run while Derrick Allen tallied a hit. Tyler Cannon crossed home plate once while Jack Kelly drove in a run in the second for the first score of the game. For Adrean Post, Wyatt Beadle, Andrew Jones and Jose Rodriguez all collected one hit apiece. Greece Post will face Hamburg Post 527 in the American Legion New York State Tournament championship on Wednesday. As the only remaining unbeaten team in the tournament, Greece needs one more win. A 10 a.m. first pitch is scheduled. If necessary, a second game will follow upon the completion of game one.
