Preview: 2025 New York State American Legion Championship

As American Legion Baseball celebrates its 100th year, the New York State championship comes to Rochester for the first time in history. Greece Post 468 hosts the tournament at Rochester Institute of Technology. Action begins with four games on Saturday, July 26th and continues until a champion is crowned on Wednesday, July 30th. Smith Post is in search for its third ever state title after ending a 46-year drought last year, with Smith Post’s first championship coming back in 1978. *The 5th District sent two teams to the championship this year.

HISTORY: Hamburg Post is back in the tournament for the first time since 2021. In 2021, Hamburg Post went on to win the state championship and look to do the same in 2025. Hamburg has two championships in its history with the first coming back in 2019.

HISTORY: The Rockland Pirates are back in the state tournament after a three-season hiatus. Rockland has 10 state championships in program history with its most recent coming back in 2018 where they completed the trifecta winning in 2017 and 2016 as well. The Pirates won four state titles in a row from 1991-1994, won another in 1996 and went back-to-back in 2001 and 2002.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Mid-Atlantic Regional. The New York State champion advances in the national tournament and will play in Ridge, Maryland from August 6th-11th. The American Legion World Series will take place in Shelby, North Carolina.
