Thursday American Legion Wrap: Cottreall-Warner and Chili Post clinch spots in District 7 Championship Series

Nick Rene hurled a complete game, and the Cottreall-Warner Post offense supplied early run support to clinch a spot in the 2025 American Legion District 7 Championship Series. Rene struck out three while issuing one walk and gave up four runs on eight hits. Sam Nick finished 2-for-3 including an RBI triple in the first to give Cottreall-Warner a lead it did not surrender. Tyler Estelle went 3-for-3 and scored on Nick’s three-bagger in the first frame. Estelle and Nick both singled and scored in the third for a 3-0 advantage. Dylan Dumont plated Alex Grejda with a base hit in the fifth and gave Cottreall-Warner its largest lead of the game at 7-2. Grejda was 1-3 with a walk. Owen Andreatta and Garrett McNeil singled and scored a run apiece. Caden Richards drove in Derek VanAuker with a two-out double in the top of the fifth as Ely Fagan cut the deficit to one at 3-2. Oliver Wright was 2-2 with a run scored. Pete Newcomer singled and had a pair of RBI. Joel Thomas singled, drove in a run and scored. Mason Stewart walked and scored. Jacob Sova added a double. Austin Yageric had a base hit. Ely Fagan took Game 1 of the series. Cottreall Warner Post advances to the District 7 Championship series to face third-seeded Chili Post.

Bobby Rule Jr. hurled 6 2/3 innings of three-hit ball, and Chili Post 1830 advanced to the American Legion District 7 Championship Series. Rule retired nine of the first 11 batters he faced and allowed one hit during that stretch. The left-hander worked out of bases-loaded jam in the the fifth with one of his seven strike outs. He surrendered one walk in the game. Aaron Reina went 2-for-4 for the second straight night driving in two of the game’s three runs. Reina brought in Alex Spezzano with a single in third and provided an insurance run with a base hit in the seventh that scored Rule. Lucas Karelus plated Rule with a two-out single in the first to stake Chili Post to the early lead. Rule was 1-3 with a walk. Spezzano singled and walked twice. Cam Barbulean, Jack Kelly, and Dylan Savage each had one hit for Greece Post. With the win, Chili Post, which rallied after losing the first game of the series, is set to face second-seeded Cottreall Warner Post in the championship. Game 1 of the best-of-three series is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch. Friday at Penfield High School. Greece Post had won the past three District 7 championships.
