American Legion Final Preview: Chili Post and Cottreall-Warner Post go to battle for District 7 championship

The 2025 American Legion District 7 Championship is on the line when third-seeded Chili Post 1830 faces second-seeded Cottreall-Warner Post 942 this weekend. A 6 p.m. first pitch is scheduled for Game 1 on Friday. The best-of-three series continues Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. start for Game 2. Game 3 (if necessary) will follow. Penfield High School will host all games of the championship series.

How they arrived here: After earning byes in the first and quarterfinal rounds, No. 2 Cottreall-Warner Post started its postseason in a best-of-three series semifinal against No. 5 Ely Fagan Post 1151. After a game one 5-4 loss in extras, Cottreall-Warner Post won game two (13-3) and game three (7-4) to make its way to the championship. After receiving a bye in the first round, Chili Post kicked off its playoff run with a walk off 7-6 victory over No. 6 Rayson Miller Post 899 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Chili Post topped No. 1 seed Greece Post with back-to-back victories in games two (11-8) and three (3-0) after falling in game one 4-1 to advance to the final.

Tempos and trends: Both Cottreall-Warner and Chili Post advanced to the championship after dropping the opening game of the semifinal series. Cottreall-Warner Post rolls into the final with 11 victories in its past 13 outings. In that span, Cottreall-Warner outscored opponents 100-37 while allowing three runs or more on three occasions and scoring 10-plus runs four times. This season Cottreall-Warner has shut out its opponents on six different outings and scored five or more runs 14 times. Chili Post has outscored opponents in the postseason, 22-18. On the season, Chili Post has scored 10-plus runs and shut out opponents on four different occasions while allowing five or more runs six times, with all but one ending in victory.
