Bloomfield, Chautauqua Lake set to battle in Class C Far West Regional

One team is looking to notch back-to-back wins in the NYS Class C quarterfinals. The other team is making its third quarterfinal appearance since 2015. Bloomfield and Chautauqua Lake (VI) will meet to send one team to the NYS Class C semifinals. Here’s the breakdown: 

Class C

Friday, Frontier High School, 7:30 p.m.

How they arrived here: Bloomfield defeated Warsaw 14-0 to claim the Section V Class C1 crown and went on to beat Bolviar-Richburg 4-0 in the Regional qualifier. Chautauqua Lake won against Barker 2-0 to claim the Section VI Class C championship. 

Tempo and trends: Bloomfield averages 9.9 runs per game and allows one run per game on defense. Chautauqua Lake averages 8.6 runs per game on offense while allowing 1.7 runs per game on defense. 

Players to watch for Bloomfield: Ashlyn Wright Sr. P (.44 ERA, 20-1 record, .462 AVG, 6 2B, 4 3B, 31 RBI); Calla McCombs Jr. C (.417, 4 2B, 6 3B); Brianna Leitten Sr. RF/3B (.527 AVG, 5 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 26 RBI); Sawyer Gallup Sr. LF (.426 AVG); Sydney Falsone Fr. CF (.526 AVG, 29 R). 

Players to watch for Chautauqua Lake: Lucy Gates Jr. 3B; Cayzlee Johnson Sr. P Jillian Miller Jr. 2B; Alice Scarpine 8th SS; Karagan Fairbank So. C; Kinslee Motter 8th CF. 

Coaches: Mark Jacobs (Bloomfield), Katherine Yudin (Chautauqua Lake). 

History 101: This is the second time that Bloomfield has made the regional round, and are trying to get back to the state semifinal in back-to-back years. Bloomfield previously defeated Westfield 2-0 in the state quarterfinals last season. This is the third time that Chautauqua Lake has made the regional round and the first time since 2018. 

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class C semifinals against the winner of Sandy Creek (III) and Deposit-Hancock (IV).
