CLASS B

No. 1 WELLSVILLE (16-3) 4

Karson Grover did it all as the senior finished with two RBI and two runs scored to lead Wellsville to its ninth straight victory and 16th sectional title, tying Pittsford Sutherland for the most all-time in Section V. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Grover sent a shot to the outfield that drove Trent Green home to tie the game at three apiece. Then just a few plays later, the senior beat the throw as Grover was able to steal home plate for the eventual game-winning run. Down 1-0 in the first inning with runners in scoring position, Grover singled to plate Ty Vogel and tie the game. In the bottom of the fourth down two, Grover doubled to lead off the frame and crossed home plate thanks to a Gavin Haggerty single which cut the lead to one. On the mound, Aiden Cowburn hurled seven innings and went 1-2-3 in the seventh to cap off a win. The senior struck out 11 and improved to 7-1 on the season. For Le Roy, Jake Higgins got the scoring started with an RBI-single in the first inning while Peter Clark hit a solo-shot home run in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Luke Lathan followed the homer with an RBI-single to drive in a run and give the Oatkan Knights a 3-1 lead after three. Wellsville moves on the the Class B Far West Regional as the Lions take on the Section VI Class B champion Medina, Thursday at Dwyer Stadium.

CLASS D

No. 6 FILLMORE (14-7) 5 (E/12)
No. 1 ARKPORT-CANASERAGA (17-2) 4

It was a 4-4 stalemate in the top of the 12th inning, but that all changed when Jared Boon hit an RBI-single that drove in Avery Potter for the game-winning run to lift Fillmore to its sixth consecutive victory and fifth title in program history. The freshman finished with two hits on the day and pitched 2.2 scoreless relief innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts to earn the win on the mound. Down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Fillmore got runners in scoring position after singles from Isaac Wilcox and Connor McCumiskey. Potter followed with a single that scored Wilcox to cut the lead to one while Brayden Hennard grounded out to second base which allowed McCumiskey to cross home plate and tie the game at four apiece. Wilcox went 3-for-5 with two runs while McCumiskey ended 2-4 with a run and a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to score Fillmore’s first run of the game and cut the lead to three. In the sixth inning, James Hillman singled, driving in Hennard to cut the lead to two. After trailing 4-0 through four innings, the Eagles put up five unanswered to complete the comeback. For Arkport-Canaseraga, Devin Moran finished 3-4 with a two-run single in the bottom of the second to give the Wolves a quick 2-0 lead. John Marcus collected three hits including an RBI-single that drove in Bryer Drake while Aydan Button added two hits including a single that plated Micah Marvin to cap off a two-run third inning and take a 4-0 advantage. Eli Merry doubled in the second, singled in the fifth and crossed home plate for the first run of the game. Fillmore advances to the Class D Far West Regional to take on the Class D Section VI champs Franklinville at McDonough Park, Saturday June 7th at 12:00 p.m.
