Sectional Final Baseball Preview: Sodus; Geneseo to battle for C1 crown

One team is looking to win its second sectional title in the past three seasons. The other carries a winning streak that is 14 games long. Sodus and Geneseo will clash in the Class C1 title game. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed SODUS SPARTANS (19-1/Wayne County)
vs.
No. 3 seed GENESEO BLUE DEVILS (18-4/Livingston County Division II)
Friday, Colburn Park, 5:30 p.m.

How they arrived here: Sodus took down No. 8 seed Williamson by a score of 5-3 in the quarterfinal round before sneaking past No. 5 seed Pavilion/York with a 2-1 win to clinch a championship birth. Geneseo took down No. 14 seed Lyons with a 13-4 win in the first round and then beat No. 6 seed Notre Dame Batavia in the quarterfinals 7-6. A 5-4 win over No. 7 seed Bloomfield in the semifinals booked Geneseo a trip to the title game.

Tempo and trends: The Spartans average 8.5 runs per game on offense while allowing an average of 1.6 runs per game on defense. Sodus enters the title bout on a five-game winning streak. Geneseo scores an average of 9.1 runs per game and allows an average of 4.4 runs per game. Geneseo’s win streak sits at 14 games.

Players to watch for Sodus: Garrett Barron Jr.; Austin Cincinello Sr.; Cooper Ingersoll Jr.; Evan Laird Jr.; Braydn Orbaker Sr.

Players to watch for Geneseo: Tyler Churchfield Jr.; Luke Davis Sr.; Phillip Dotterweich Sr.; Brady O’Brien Sr.; Oren Ray Jr.; Cooper Warner Sr.

Coaches: Gene Hoskins (Sodus), Scott Miller (Geneseo)

History 101: Sodus is looking to win its fourth sectional championship in program history and its second since 2023. A win would give Geneseo a sixth Section V title in program history, and first since 2018.

What’s at stake: A spot in the regional qualifier against the C2 champion, either Kendall or Genesee Valley-Belfast.
