Pittsford Mendon and Eastridge go head-to-head in Class A Baseball Final

After a regular season game where Pittsford Mendon pulled out the victory, the Vikings and Eastridge match up again. This time in the Class A sectional final. One squad is looking for its fifth title and first in 24 years. The other is looking for its first sectional title since 1990 and third in program history. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: After a first round bye, top-seeded Pittsford Mendon cruised to a 12-2 victory against No. 9 Batavia in the quarterfinals and followed that up with a 12-1 win against No. 4 East in the semifinals to reach the Class A final. Eastridge ran away with a 14-1 victory over No. 10 Newark in the first round and upset No. 2 Palmyra-Macedon 6-1 in the quarterfinals. The Lancers then defeated No. 11 Honeoye Falls-Lima in the semifinals to make it to the title game.

Tempo and trends: Piitsford Mendon scores 6.3 runs a game and allow just 3.1. Eastridge averages 4.2 runs per game while allowing 3.85. Pittsford Mendon enters the championship on a five game win streak with all victories coming by 10-plus runs and have outscored opponents 59-4 in that span. Eastridge is riding a six-game win streak heading into the final while outscoring opponents 26-3 during the postseason.

History 101: In the regular season matchup between the two squads, Pittsford Mendon pulled out a 5-2 victory. The Vikings are in search of their fifth title in program history with the last one in 2001. Eastridge aims for its third title in program history and its first title in 35 years.
