Section V Class C Flag Football Final Preview: Batavia and Finney go for sectional crown

One team has reached its third straight sectional title game but is still in search of victory, while the other is making its first appearance. The Section V Class C flag football title game between Charles G. Finney and Batavia is set for Wednesday at Monroe Community College with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Here’s what you need to know:

No. 3 seed C.G FINNEY FALCONS (12-2-1)
vs.
No. 5 seed BATAVIA BLUE DEVILS (9-3-1)

How they arrived here: C.G. Finney opened its tournament with a 6-0 win over Newark before taking a quarterfinal matchup with Geneva, 34-14. Finney then edged out Canisteo-Greenwood, 13-12 to earn a spot in the final. Batavia’s tourney started with a 25-6 win over Williamson/Sodus/Marion before wins against Gananda (20-0) and East Rochester (6-0) to advance to the final round.

Coaches: Matt McCracken (Batavia)

History 101: Batavia finished runner-up in last year’s Class B1 tournament and in the Class B tournament the year before that. This is Charles G. Finney’s first appearance in the Section V Flag Football tournament.

What’s next: The winner will face the Section VI champion on May 31 at Highmark Stadium.
