Section V Class A Flag Football Final Preview: Fairport tries to stop Penfield three-peat

One team will be aiming for a third-straight sectional title, while another is trying for its first. Penfield and Fairport will meet up on Tuesday, May 27, for the Section V Class A Flag Football final at Monroe Community College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 P.M. Here’s what you need to know:

No. 1 seed PENFIELD PATRIOTS (8-3)
vs.
No. 2 seed FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (8-4)

How they arrived here: Penfield beat No. 4 seed Hilton, 39-27, in the Class A semifinal. Fairport, meanwhile, edged out No. 3 Edison/WOIS/SOTA, 9-7.

Average Points Scored: Penfield 34.09, Fairport 15.58

Average Points Allowed: Penfield 12.55, Fairport 17.42

Players to watch for Penfield: Jr. Sophia Puccia (107-for-177 passing, 1363 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, 856 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns); Fr. Adriana Ferraro (21-for-36 passing, 214 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 152 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 94 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns); Sr. Molly Brown (589 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 228 receiving yards, 3 receiving touchdowns); Sr. Emma Garigen (384 receiving yards, 8 receiving touchdowns); So. History 101: Penfield is the two-time defending Class A champion. This is Fairport’s first appearance in the sectional final after losing in the first round last season.

What’s next: The winner will face the Section VI champion on May 31 at Highmark Stadium.
