Two of the top prospects in the Washington Nationals system are coming to the Rochester Red Wings.
Outfielder Daylen Lile and relief pitcher Marquis Grissom Jr. were called up to AAA from the AA Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday, the team announced. The duo are the No. 9 and No. 23 prospects in the Nationals organization, respectively, according to MLB.com Pipeline.

Lile, a 22-year-old from Kentucky, comes to Rochester red-hot, having hit safely for 14 straight games in Harrisburg, where he’s led the entire Eastern League in hits with 29. The left-handed hitter (but right-handed thrower) hit .319 with a .845 OPS in 91 at-bats for Harrisburg, including two home runs. Lile is also a speedster on the basepaths- his six stolen bases this season are among the leaders in the Nationals organization. Lile was drafted in the second round of the 2021 draft.
Marquis Grissom Jr., the son of two-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove outfielder Marquis Grissom, has worked in relief his entire professional career, recording 25 saves and a 2.29 career ERA in 88 games since he was drafted out of Georgia Tech in the 13th round of the 2022 draft. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 1.86 ERA and five saves in nine appearances this season, all for Harrisburg. According to MLB.com Pipeline, Grissom is particularly well-known for his changeup, which is rated 70 on the 20-80 scouting scale.
Lile and Grissom’s call-ups come as the Red Wings continue to struggle. Their early season record of 6-21 is the worst in the International League. On Tuesday, the Wings lost 19-1 to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in a rain-shortened game at Innovative Field, the squad’s third straight defeat.
Now with Lile and Grissom, the Wings will try to get back in the win column on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. for game two of their series with the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
