A rematch of last year’s Class AAA regional matchup is set to take place. Buffalo State is set to host Fairport and Lancaster in a battle to move on to the NYS Class AAA semi-finals. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Fairport defeated Greece Athena/Odyssey 69-28 to move onto the Class AAA final and then topped Greece Arcadia/Olympia 46-38 to advance to regionals. Lancaster defeated Jamestown 67-46 in the Section VI Class AAA final to move on to regionals.

Trends: Fairport has won nine of its last 13 games entering the regional. Seven of those wins were by double-digits. Lancaster enters this matchup on a 17-game win streak. Thirteen of those wins have been decide by 20-plus points.

History 101: Fairport is looking to avenge last year’s loss after falling to the Legends, 41-31. The Red Raiders are 1-1 in Regional Championships since 2010 and is in its ninth regional matchup since 1988. In 2010 the Red Raiders to Shenendehowa (II) in the Class AA NYS semi-finals. Lancaster is making its fourth stgraight regional appearance and looking for its second win during this recent stretch.
What’s at stake: Winner advances to state semifinal and will face either Albertus Magnus (I) or Middletown (IX).
