
One side looks to repeat and make Section V history. The other didn’t win a postseason game last year but it currently winners of 10 straight. Elba and Fillmore take the court this weekend to decide the Section V Class D Girls’ Basketball title. Here’s the breakdown:

How they arrived here: Elba received a first-round bye before achieving a 71-36 defeat of No. 8 Avoca-Prattsburgh in the quarterfinals. In the semis, the Lancers defeated No. 4 Notre Dame Batavia 52-36 to reach the Class D title game. Fillmore also skipped the first round before wins over No. 10 Mount Morris (61-30) and No. 3 C.G. Finney (48-36) landed the Eagles in the Class D final.

Scoring defense: Elba (38.9), Fillmore (32.8)
Trends: Elba hasn’t lost since the 2023-24 state tournament, accumulating 21 consecutive wins this year. The Lancers’ only win by a single-digit margin of victory all season was on Jan. 31 versus York (69-60). The Eagles have only one loss all year with 11 and 10-game winning streaks under their belt.

History 101: Elba seeks to repeat as Class D champions, claiming their 17th sectional title in program history. Elba trails only Pittsford Mendon (17) in Section V Girls’ Basketball program championships. Since 2008, the Lancers have been crowned champs 10 times, including five straight years from 2017-2021. Fillmore’s only title was in 2019. The Eagles lost to Notre Dame-Batavia in the 2022 Class D final and this will be their second championship appearance since 2019.
What’s at stake: Winner advances to face the Section VI Class D champion in the state quarterfinals.
