One team is looking for a second-straight Section V title and fourth in the last five years. The other aims for its 11th title in program history and first since 2012. Avon and East Rochester will face-off in the Section V Class B2 Championship. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 AVON RIVERHAWKS (18-4 / Livingston County Division I/ No. 9 NYSSWA)
vs.
No. 2 EAST ROCHESTER BOMBERS (19-3 / Wayne County / No. 23 NYSSWA)
Saturday, Blue Cross Arena, 9 a.m.

How they arrived here: Top-seeded Avon defeated Williamson (95-31) and Lyons (64-60) to reach the Section V title game. East Rochester took down Bishop Kearney (56-52) and Canisteo-Greenwood (46-44).

Scoring offense: Avon (67), East Rochester (67)

Scoring defense: Avon (50.1), East Rochester (46)

Trends: Avon is riding a three-game win streak, while East Rochester has won nine in a row.

Players to watch for Avon: Trevor Stroud Sr. G (23 PPG, six RPG, three APG, three SPG); Josh Harter Sr. G (19 PPG, six RPG, five APG, three SPG); Kal Dolgos Jr. F/G (six PPG, six RPG); Ryan Hillman Sr. G/F (six PPG, four RPG).

East Rochester: Ray Allen Jr. (10 PPG, seven RPG); Judah Tanner Jr. (14 PPG, four RPG, three APG, three SPG); Elijah Tanner Sr. (16 PPG, five RPG, four APG, four SPG); Justice Allen Jr. (10 PPG, seven RPG); Jordan Nunn Sr. (seven PPG, four RPG)

Coaches: Rob Fries (Avon), Jordan Koch (East Rochester)

History 101: Avon has won 10 sectional titles in program history. The Riverhawks have appeared in the finals in each of the last six seasons, including three-straight titles from 2020-2022 and another in 2024. East Rochester last captured a Section V title in 2012 and is looking for its 11th in program history. That year, the Bombers fell in the Class C Far West Regional to OTC Middle College (VI).

What’s at stake: A spot in the Class B Far West Regional Qualifier against either World of Inquiry or Waterloo.
