Brighton head football coach Stephen Lian is among the 32 nominees for the 2024 Don Shula High School Coach of the Year as announced by the NFL on Tuesday.
Each NFL team nominates a high school coach in its region for the award. One winner from both the AFC and NFC will be invited to the 2025 NFL Pro Bowl Games in Orlando, Florida. During the week, the coaches will have VIP access to the Pro Bowl Games practices, have on-field access during the event and the chance to interact with various members of the football community.
Each nominee is guaranteed at least $1,000, but the two winners will receive $15,000 for their high school programs on top of a $10,000 cash award. The two winners will also receive Super Bowl LIX tickets and walk the Red Carpet at NFL Honors on Saturday, February 8.
The Bruins are coming off their first Section V title in program history and subsequent appearance in the NYS Class A semifinal . Lian led Brighton to a 12-1 record and oversaw a defense that allowed just 12.8 points per game this season.
The 2024 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year winners are announced on Sunday, February 2, televised on ABC and ESPN from 3-6 p.m.
