The Rochester Red Wings and Washington Nationals announced Wednesday that Matt LeCroy will return to manage the Rochester Red Wings for a fifth straight season- the most since the legendary Joe Altobelli helmed the squad from 1971 through 1976.
LeCroy, 49, has been a member of the Nationals organization for 17 seasons, including 14 years as a minor league manager, leading squads to a career 873-950 record and three playoff appearances. The only man to manage the Red Wings during the Nationals era, LeCroy previously played catcher for eight seasons in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins and the Nationals. LeCroy is also an Olympic medalist, winning a bronze with Team USA at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics during his college career with Clemson University.
LeCroy played for the Red Wings during the Twins era, appearing in 80 games in 2007. He’s the 17th manager in Red Wings history to have played for Rochester.
Other members of the coaching staff include:
- Brian Daubach enters his fifth season as Red Wings hitting coach and his 15th year as a coach in the Nationals systems. Before his coaching career, Daubach played 661 career MLB games, winning a World Series ring with the 2004 Red Sox.
- Rafael Chaves returns for his fourth season with the Red Wings as pitching coach. Before joining the Wings, he served as Director of Pitching Development for the Philadelphia Phillies and pitched in 487 games over a 12-year professional career.
- Mario Lisson joins the team as a development coach, replacing Billy McMillon. The 40-year-old is in his seventh season as a coach in the Washington organization, having managed the Wilmington Blue Rocks from 2022-2024, the Fredericksburg Nationals in 2021, and the Hagerstown Suns in 2019. Lisson had a 16-year-old professional career, playing in the Kansas City, San Francisco, and Washington organizations as well as stints in leagues abroad, including in his native Venezuela. Lisson has also played for the Venezuelan national team.
- Performance analyst Daniel Minter enters his fourth season with the Wings and his sixth with the Nationals organization.
- Athletic trainer Eric Montague has been the athletic trainer for the Red Wings for what will now be five seasons, dating back to the beginning of the Nationals affiliation. This season will be his 27th in professional baseball.
- Mike Warren also returns for his fifth season with the Red Wings, in his case as strength and conditioning coach. This season is his 15th in the Nationals organization.
LeCroy and the Red Wings finished the season 2024 season with a winning record, 77-71, and return to play late next March before hosting their home opener on April 1, 2025.

I’m not a fan of the Nationals at all, but I am a fan of LeCroy. I’m glad he’s back. I like the stability of having the same manager back year to year.
Good decision.
