West Herr Girls’ Soccer Weekend Wrap: Pittsford Mendon and Byron-Bergen win state titles

SATURDAY

CLASS AAA

FAIRPORT (12-6-0) 4
WARD MELVILLE (XI) 5

Savanna Biehler netted two goals and picked up a helper for Fairport in the NYS semifinals. The junior finishes the season with 32 goals which leads the Red Raiders. Biehler assisted Zainab Khalid for a goal in the opening 40 while Kate Pecora tallied the other assist of the game. Addison Tally made four saves to end the season with a total of 124. Ward Melville takes on Arlington (I) in the NYS championship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday Nov. 17 at SUNY Cortland.

CLASS A

PITTSFORD MENDON (18-1-1) 2
SHOREHAM-WADING RIVER (XI) 1

After going down 1-0 in the opening 40, Charlotte Engin and Lily Larimer netted a goal apiece in the second half to lift Pittsford Mendon to its 11th straight victory. Engin leads Mendon with 15 goals this season, and Larimer follows with 14. The Vikings advanced to their first NYS Finals since 2007 for a shot at the program’s fourth state title. Mendon faces New Hartford (III) at SUNY Cortland, Sunday Nov. 17 at 10 a.m.

Mia Gray netted two goals and tallied an assist to pace Byron-Bergen to its eighth straight victory. The junior increases her goal total to 39 on the season to lead Section V. Gray was just one goal of a three goal first half. Just two minutes into the opening 40, Gray connected with Riley Shallenberger who found the back of the net to give the Bees a 1-0 lead early. Grace Diquattro netted a goal midway through the first half thanks to an assist from Elizabeth Starowitz to make it 3-0 at the end of one. Diquattro also tallied an assist as she found Gray for the lone goal for of the second half. Natalie Prinzi recorded four saves four Byron-Bergen’s 14th shutout this season. Byron-Bergen advances to the NYS Finals for the first time in program history as the Bees take on Stillwater (II) at SUNY Cortland Sunday Nov. 17 at 12 p.m.

CLASS D

KESHEQUA (14-5-1) 1
NORTHVILLE (II) 1

Northville wins in penalty kicks 2-1 to advances to the NYS championship.
