Women’s College Soccer Week Wrap: Cipolla’s hat trick leads MCC in NJCAA East District finals; Hudson scores game winner to lead Florida State

FRIDAY

MONROE CC (11-1-2) 5
HARTFORD CC (8-8-2) 0
Sam Cipolla (Gates-Chili) generated a hat trick to lead Monroe Community College in the NJCAA East District finals. Cipolla increased her season goal total to 24 placing her third in NJCAA Division I for scoring. Molly Seither (Pal-Mac) opened scoring using an assist from Cipolla. Brianna Romaniak registered the fourth tally on touches from Saffron Millar. Clare Boesel (Pal-Mac) made nine saves for her ninth shutout of the season. MCC’s next obstacle to the National Championship is Salt Lake Community College.

SATURDAY

NAZARETH (11-7-2) 0
SUNY GENESEO (13-4-3) 1
Riley Griffin’s second goal of the season proved to be enough for SUNY Geneseo to claim the 2024 Empire 8 championship. Abby Foster and Lindsey Clar (Wheatland-Chili) collected assists on the early second half tally. Emily McLouth made four saves for the shutout victory. Annika Monfort (Webster Thomas) made five saves for Nazareth. The Knights will face MIT in the first round of NCAA DIII tournament.

UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER (11-3-3) 1
EMORY UNIVERSITY (11-3-3) 1
Both goals were scored within the first five minutes of the game and each side concluded their regular seasons with a draw. Natalie Santangelo tied the match with her seventh of the year in the fourth minute. It would stand as Rochester’s only shot on goal. Grace Kuropatkin made 11 saves to keep the game even. Rochester will face Emmanuel College in the first round of the NCAA DIII tournament.

FLORIDA STATE (14-2-3) 3
NORTH CAROLINA (16-5-0) 2
Wrianna Hudson (Greece Athena) scored the game-winner to seal the comeback victory for FSU’s fifth straight ACC championship.
