Men’s College Soccer Week Wrap: Drake pushes RIT into Liberty League semis; Burkhart named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week

SATURDAY 

No.5 SUNY BROCKPORT (7-6-4) 3
No.4 SUNY POLY (9-4-3) 0
Brady Reinagel netted two goals in Brockport’s quarterfinal victory over SUNY Poly. The junior added both insurance tallies with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Mauricio Leiva scored his first of the season earlier in the second half, giving Brockport the 1-0 lead. Andrew Taylor made one save for the shutout. Poly outshot Brockport 15-8 but only put one on net to the Golden Eagles’ five.

No.3 GENESEO (8-4-6) 1
Hartwick tied the game in the second half and held on through penalty kicks to advance to the Empire 8 semis. Carraig Jones (Irondequoit) got Geneseo on the board by the ninth minute of the match. Stefen Nikolic provided the assist. Vincent Maronski made four saves for the Knights. Geneseo downed Hartwick 1-0 earlier in the year.

Ryan Fitzgerald (Greece Athena) gave Nazareth a lead in the first half which was maintained until midway through the second half. Drew Decker provided an assist on the play. Logan Menna made six saves for the Golden Flyers. Elmira collected both of its tallies in less than a minute.

SUNDAY

WASHINGTON-ST.LOUIS U. (7-5-3) 0
UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER (9-4-3) 1
Milos Bisenic capitalized off a cross from Kol Bassuk to hand Rochester the lead and eventual victory. Santino Lupica-Tondo made six saves for the Yellowjackets.

TUESDAY

No.5 RIT (7-9-1) 1
No.4 HOBART (5-6-6) 0
Selorm Drake played hero with a late tally to break the tie and send RIT to the Liberty League semifinals. Drake found the back of the net with less than nine minutes in regulation for his third of the season. John Lucas provided the assist on the game winner. Jason Trapp made six saves for the Tigers.

WEDNESDAY

No.1 ST. JOHN FISHER (10-4-5) 0 (SJF ON PK’S)
St. John Fisher extends its winning streak to eight games and advances to the Empire 8 finals against Elmira. Andrew Taylor made seven saves for Brockport while Christian Burkhart (Brighton) made three for St. John Fisher.
