Pittsford Mendon has advanced beyond the Class A Sectional Championship to face Lewiston Porter of Section VI. They’re set to face off at Williamsville East High School on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 1:15 p.m. Here’s what you need to know:

How they arrived here: Pittsford Mendon (No. 3 NYSSWA Class A) had a bye in the first round before it downed Newark/Lyons (10-0) in the quarterfinals beginning its sectional run. Then, the Vikings defeated No. 5 Our Lady of Mercy (3-2) before they claimed the Section V Class A title with a 1-0 win over Pittsford Sutherland (No. 23 NYSSWA Class A). Lewiston Porter (No. 4 NYSSWA Class A) beat No. 14 Depew (11-0) then downed No. 6 Amherst (3-2) in the quarterfinals. The Lancers bested Williamsville South (3-2) to reach the finals where they shutout Pioneer (2-0).

Trends: Pittsford Mendon has not lost since Sept. 28th, amassing nine wins straight. The Vikings have a 29-5 goal differential over that span and have allowed a goal in only one of their last six games (3-2 win over Mercy). Lewiston-Porter held its final 10 regular season opponents to one goal or less. The Lancers’ last loss was to Williamsville North (2-0) on Sept. 16th.

History 101: Pittsford Mendon is making its first trip to regionals since 2014 when the Vikings beat Williamsville East, 3-2. Saturday’s state quarterfinals’ appearance will be Mendon’s fifth since 2001. The Vikings have a 3-1 record in those previous matches. Lewiston Porter is making its fourth straight regional appearance including last year when the Lancers beat Aquinas, 1-0. Lew-Port has a 2-1 record in recent quarterfinals with the other win coming against Palmyra-Macedon in Class B.
The two schools met five times in the state quarterfinals from 1984 to 1993. Mendon won all five of those matches including 1984, ’86 and ’88 when the Vikings went on to win NYSPHSAA Class B titles.

What’s Next: The winner advances to the New York State Class A semi-final on Saturday, November 16th at Cortland High School to face Shoreham-Wading River or the Section VIII champion (either North Shore or Wantagh).
