Section V Boys’ Soccer champion Spencerport faces Section VI’s Clarence in the Class AA Far West Regional on Saturday, November 9th at Geneseo High School. Kickoff is 7:30 P.M. Here is what you need to know:

How they arrived here: Spencerport’s (NYSSWA No. 10) tournament journey began with a 4-0 win against No. 13 Canandaigua before a quarterfinal victory against No. 12 Webster Thomas (2-1) and advancing on PKs against No. 1 Churchville-Chili in the semifinals before beating Brighton in the Section V title game, 2-0. Clarence (NYSSWA No. 5) entered the Section VI Class AA tournament as the No. 1 seed and won its three games by a combined score of 20-3, including a 6-1 win over Hamburg in the sectional title game.

Trends: Spencerport lost three of its last five regular season games but has limited its opponents to one combined goal through the sectional tournament. Clarence hasn’t lost since a non-league 4-1 defeat to McQuaid Jesuit on Sept. 28 and enters the state tournament with 10 straight wins.

History 101: Spencerport’s Section V title was its second in three years and 14th in program history. Spencerport is making its fourth trip to the state tournament and is 3-0 in previous regional games. Clarence is making its 19th regional appearance with a record of 5-13 in previous trips to the state quarterfinals. The Red Devils beat Churchville-Chili last season and have advanced to the NYS finals on three separate occasions. In 2017, Clarence lost to eventual state champion McQuaid, 1-0.
What’s next: The winner will face either Section II’s Bethlehem or Section III’s Nottingham in the state semifinal on Saturday, November 16, at Middletown High School.
