Advantage Federal Credit Union Boys’ Soccer Far West Regional Preview: Fairport and Lancaster to meet in Class AAA rematch

Fairport and Lancaster will meet for the second straight year in the New York State Class AAA quarterfinals. A 2:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Geneseo High School. Here’s what you need to know:

FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (13-0-3/Monroe County Division I)
vs.
LANCASTER LEGENDS (15-2-0/ECIC I)

How they arrived here: Top-seeded Fairport (No. 1 NYSSWA Class AAA) had a first-round bye in a five-team sectional tournament. The Red Raiders defeated No. 4 Rush-Henrietta 2-0 to advance to the Class AAA final. In the final, the Red Raiders topped McQuaid Jesuit 3-2 to advance to the Far West Regional. Top-seeded Lancaster (No. 5 NYSSWA Class AAA) defeated No. 4 West Seneca 4-0. In the final. the Legends defeated No. 3 Jamestown 6-1 to advance to the Far West Regional.

Total goals scored: Fairport (44), Lancaster (67)

Total goals allowed: Fairport (15), Lancaster (24)

Trends: Fairport has won seven straight coming into Saturday’s game outscoring its opponents 17 -7. Fairport hasn’t given up more than two goals in a game yet this season. Lancaster has won 15 of its last 16. In the Legends last five games, they have scored 26 goals.

Players to watch for Fairport: Nolan Geib Sr. GK 461 minutes played, 30 saves, nine goals allowed; Alexander Grejda Jr. D three goals and two assists; Charles Iappolito Sr. M three goals; Ryan Mathis Sr. F 16 goals and seven assists; Trevor Scoppa So. F five goals and three assists; Austin Stephany Sr. F four goals and five assists.

Lancaster: Brandon Nowak Sr. M 12 goals, 10 assists; Declan Sengbusch Jr. M 10 goals, 18 assists; Anthony Siranni So. M seven goals, seven assists Roland Wenk Jr. F 28 goals, thirteen assists;

Coaches: Bill Teasdale (Fairport), Luciano Gallo (Lancaster)

History 101: This is a rematch of the 2023 Class AA Far West Regional, in which Lancaster came out on top 1-0. Fairport is 7-2-0 all-time in regional play including a 4-0 win over Lancaster in 2019. The Red Raiders also have state quarterfinal victories over Clarence in 2016 (1-0/Class AA), Orchard Park (1-0/2014/AA), Clarence (1-0/2013/AA), Clarence (2-1/1998 Class A), Sweet Home (1-0, 1997/A) and Lakeshore (3-0, 1996/A). Fairport lost in overtime to Clarence (1-0) in 2009. Lancaster is coming off its ninth Section VI title in program history.

What’s next: The winner advances to the New York State semi-finals to face either Syosset (VIII) or Walt Whitman (XI).
