Brockport boys’ soccer will make its first appearance in the New York State quarterfinals when it takes the field Saturday against Section VI champion Grand Island. A 5:00 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Geneseo High School. Here’s what you need to know:

How they arrived here: Brockport (NYSSWA Class A No. 3) defeated No. 10 Honeoye Falls-Lima (4-0) and No. 3 Newark (3-1) to open sectionals. In the Class A final, the Blue Devils defeated Pittsford Mendon 4-3 to move onto the Far West Regional. Grand Island (NYSSWA Class A No. 2) snagged the No. 1 seed in Class A1 in Section VI. The Vikings defeated No. 8 Cheektowaga 11-0, No. 4 Williamsville South 5-1 and No. 2 Williamsville East in the final 4-1. In the Class A regional qualifier, the Vikings took on Lewiston-Porter and won 1-0 to advance.

Trends: Brockport’s lone loss of the year came in its final game of the regular season, a 5-3 defeat to the very Pittsford Mendon squad they beat 4-3 in the Section V Class A final. Grand Island has outscored its last five opponents by a combined total of 26-4 . The Vikings haven’t given up more than one goal in a game so far this season.

History 101: Brockport has five section titles, but this is the Blue Devils’ first regional appearance. Grand Island is making its first trip to the state quarterfinals since 2016 when the Vikings beat Greece Athena, 2-1. Grand Island also defeated HF-L, 2-1 in the 2015 regional.
What’s next: The winner advances to the New York State Class A semi-finals to face either New Hartford (III) or Schalmont (II).
