Section V Boys’ Soccer hands out a championship on Tuesday, November 5th when Brighton and Spencerport meet for the Class AA title. A 7:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Eastridge. Here is what you need to know:

How they arrived here: Brighton opened sectional play with a 6-0 victory of No. 10 Greece Athena before advancing on PKs in a quarterfinal battle with No. 2 Penfield, 1-0. In the semifinals, the Bruins beat No. 2 Aquinas, 2-1, in double-overtime. Spencerport’s tournament journey began with a 4-0 win against No. 13 Canandaigua before a quarterfinal victory against No. 12 Webster Thomas (2-1) and advancing on PKs against No. 1 Churchville-Chili in the semifinals.

Trends: Brighton is unbeaten since October 5th, winning four of its last six, the exceptions being a tie with Webster Schroeder to end the regular season and the quarterfinal against Penfield. Spencerport lost three of its last five regular season games but has limited its opponents to one combined goal through three rounds of the sectional tournament. These two teams split their regular season meetings, with each side winning their home game in the series.

History 101: Brighton is pursuing its 11th sectional title and its first since 2018. Spencerport aims for its second title in three years and 14th in program history. The Rangers lost to Churchville-Chili in 2023 championship game.
What’s next: The winner will face Section VI champion, Clarence in the New York State Class A Far West Regional on November 9 at Geneseo High School.
