Section V Girls’ Soccer will hand out a championship on Friday, November 1 at Perry High School. No. 1 Hornell and No. 10 Haverling will meet with the Class B title at stake. A 6:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled. Here is what you need to know:

How they arrived here: As the top seed, Hornell (No. 7 NYSSWA Class B) only had to win two games to reach the finals: a quarterfinals match-up with No. 9 Dansville (4-1) and a semifinals face-off with No. 5 Le Roy (4-1). Haverling entered the tournament as the 10th seed and reached the finals by defeating No. 7 Bishop Kearney/Chesterton (6-0), No. 2 Livonia (1-0), and No. 6 Mynderse (3-0).

Total goals allowed: Hornell (9), Haverling (28)
Trends: Hornell is on a nine-game win streak, having gone undefeated since a 2-1 loss to Livonia on Sept. 28. Haverling lost its final two games of the regular season before going on a three-game win streak in tournament play. These two teams played twice during the season, both Hornell wins (3-2 and 5-0).

History 101: Hornell has won five sectional titles in history, most recently a B1 title in 2020. The Red Raiders fell to Mynderse in the quarterfinals last season. Haverling has five championships to its name, including the last four years -three years in Class B2, and last season’s Class B title.
What’s next: The winner advances to the New York State Class B Far West Regional against the Section VI champion, either Allegany-Limestone or Falconer/CV/MG, on November 8th at 7:45 P.M. at Williamsville North High School.
