Section V Girls’ Soccer hands out a championship on Friday at 5:30 P.M. at Gates Chili when Williamson and Geneseo meet with the Class C1 title up for grabs. Here is what you need to know:
No. 1 seed WILLIAMSON MARAUDERS (16-3-0/Wayne County)

How they arrived here: Entering the tournament as the top seed, the Williamson Marauders come to the championship game after three straight shutouts, defeating No. 16 Pembroke (7-0) to start the postseason before beating both No. 8 East Rochester and No. 5 Holley 1-0 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. Geneseo (No. 22 NYSSWA Class C), meanwhile, opened its tournament with a 12-0 victory over No. 15 South Seneca/Romulus before beating No. 7 Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale 4-0 in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Bloomfield 4-2 in the semis.

Trends: Williamson has won seven straight, including the first three games of postseason play. Geneseo has won four of its last six and finished the regular season losing two of its last three.

History 101: Williamson is going for its eighth title and first title since sharing the C1 crown with Warsaw in 2019. Last season, the Marauders fell just short with a 2-1 lost to Holley in the finals. Geneseo seeks its fifth title and first since grabbing the C2 crown in 2020. The Blue Devils have already improved on last year’s performance, when they fell to Keshequa in the C2 quarterfinals.
What’s next: The winner faces the C2 champion – either Kendall or Byron-Bergen in the regional qualifier on November 5th.
