The 2024 Section V Class A tournament features 14 teams, including seven from the Monroe County league, five from the Finger Lakes East, and two from the Private-Parochial league. With defending champion Aquinas now in Class AA, a new champion will be crowned this season. Tournament action begins on Tuesday, October 22nd and goes through the sectional finals at Honeoye Falls-Lima on Saturday, November 2nd.
Two teams receive first round byes this season: top-seeded Pittsford Mendon (14-1-0) and second seed Brockport (15-1-0). Mendon enters the postseason undefeated in Class A play (the lone loss coming against Class AA’s Greece Arcadia), and handed Brockport its lone loss of the year in the final game of the regular season last Friday, 5-3. The top seeds playing in the first round are third-seed Newark (14-2-0) and last year’s Class A runner-up, Pittsford Sutherland (9-4-2), in the fourth spot. Newark enters the postseason on a five-game win streak, while Sutherland has won four of its last five.
Other teams of note include fifth-seeded Greece Olympia (11-5-0) and sixth-seeded Wayne (11-5-0). Wayne fell in last season’s semifinals to Sutherland, while Olympia enters the tournament having won three of its last four games. Geneva (8-8-0) won three of its last four entering the tournament, where the Panthers are the seventh seed.
