Derrick Allen went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead Greece Post 468 past Alfred J. Jurek Post 1672, 10-4 in American Legion New York State Tournament action from Conlon Field in Binghamton, New York on Sunday. Allen plated a pair of runs with a single as seven straight reached base with two outs to break open a one-run game with in the sixth inning.
Leading 2-1, Joey Sanna started the rally with a one-out single. Kaleb Juliano was hit by pitch. One out later, Jaden Madrid reached on an error to load the bases. Brady Gerig brought home the first run of the inning with a walk, and Allen drove in Juliano and Madrid with his hit.
Weston Elkovitch, Steven Kraus and Brody Froman followed with consecutive run-scoring singles. Kraus stole home to give Greece (21-1) a 9-1 lead.
Madrid went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the win. Joe Sanna finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Steven Kraus was 2-for-4 along with an RBI and a run scored. Froman had two RBI on the strength of a 2-for-3 effort.
Trenton Muck struck out three over an 1.2 innings of relief to pick up the win. Mason Davey hurled a scoreless inning and a third.
Madrid led the game with a single, moved to second when Allen walked, and eventually scored on a double steal. Allen singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Froman to give Greece a 2-1 lead in the third. Sanna doubled and scored on a Jeffrey Broadnax sacrifice fly in the seventh.
On Alfred J Jurek Post’s side, Cam Gruarin went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Andrew Tucker finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI and Derek Jelen went 1-for-3 along with two RBI and a walk. Jurek Post (15-7) got on the board in the bottom of the first when Gruarin walked and later scored on a Jelen RBI groundout. Jurek added three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
With the win, Greece Post now looks ahead to tomorrow, Monday July 29, as the two-time reigning state champions take on Orange County Outlaws Post 1167. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m at Conlon Field.
