Three runs in the final innings sent the Rochester Red Wings down in defeat at the thruway rival Syracuse Mets on Thursday, 8-6, as a Brett Baty seventh-inning two-run home run and an eighth-inning Trayce Thompson sacrifice fly brought the Mets back from a 6-5 deficit.
Rochester (36-34) held the lead several times during the game, taking the lead in the first inning on a Riley Adams double to score James Wood to give the Wings a 1-0 lead. That score held until the bottom of the third, when the Mets tied it, 1-1, on a groundout RBI from Luisangel Acuna.

Dylan Crews, one of the top prospects in all of baseball, continued to heat up in his third AAA game one day after he hit his first Red Wings home run, grabbing hold of a Dom Hamel sweeper with two men on and two outs to single in Brady Lindsly to put the Red Wings ahead again, 2-1. Harold Ramirez followed with an RBI double to left to score Darren Baker, but Crews was thrown out trying to score a second run to end the inning with the score 3-1.
After home runs by Rhylan Thomas and Austin Allen put Syracuse ahead 4-3 in the fifth, Rochester again took the lead in the sixth, 5-4, thanks to a Darren Baker single and a Dylan Crews fielder’s choice. A Trayce Thompson home run in the bottom of the inning tied it at 5-5.
The final Red Wings lead came in the seventh when Brady Lindsly jumped on a Tyler Jay sinker to bring home Jackson Cluff with two outs for the 6-5 win. The Wings were all out of comebacks after that and could not get another baserunner during the game as Syracuse pushed ahead.
The Red Wings were led at the plate by the 7-9 hitters: Carter Kieboom, Lindsly, and Baker. Each had two hits, with Lindsly and Baker also having an RBI each. Ramirez had two hits and an RBI, while Crews drove in two.
Off the field, the Wings received further reinforcement on Thursday with the promotion of right-handed pitcher Brad Lord from AA Harrisburg. The 6’3” 24-year-old has had a dominant season in Harrisburg, going 8-1 with a 1.40 ERA in 12 starts for the Senators.
The Red Wings, who have now lost three straight, continue their Syracuse series on Friday at 6:35 P.M. They’ll send right-hander Spenser Watkins (4-2, 4.43) to the mound against Mets’ righty Jose Butto (3-2, 3.45).
